Some assorted doodles from this morning’s stream
These are some really beautiful RubyQuest sketches. Lots of personality and emotion in them. Ruby and Tom really do make quite a duo, don’t they?
Also I left the artist’s other sketches in because it would be rude to remove them
There’s no RubyQuest movie (and Kim is not secretly Ruby)
for everyone who believed it: I’m sorry
no just kidding I’m not sorry at all it’s april fools and you only have yourselves to blame for falling for something on the first and not taking two seconds to at least check IMDb
Those of you who said “I know it’s april fools day, BUT…” you’re even bigger suckers because at least the other people can still claim they just forgot what day it is
I’m not sorry for anything
Now onto something different:
Why do so many fans (especially female fans, it seems) like Red and Santiago so much?
They’re both psychotic, outwardly threatening, and potentially- (or actually-) physically violent. They’re menacing, unpredictable, antisocial creepers. And while Red’s more of a gray area, Santiago’s past violence in particular could at the very least be interpreted as attempted rape.
Is it just me or does the fact that they’re both fan favorites say a lot of really worrying things?
To clarify, I’m not talking about people who are like “Wow, what a well-written literary villain”
I’m talking more about the people who call themselves fangirls and refer to him as “Santi”. I’m talking about people who DO romanticize these characters. Who talk about how cute they are.
I’m not saying they’re wrong. They’re fictional characters, you guys can like whoever you want, that’s fine. Real life attraction is not like fawning over some fictional character.
I’m just trying to figure it out.
And so today my friends marks the one year anniversary of the Ruby Quest album! Hard to imagine it was that long ago, eh?
I really have to thank you all though for the support on this album. When I first went to work on it, I honestly didn’t see it getting completed. It was fun to work on, it was great to create, but at the same time it was hectic and an overall daunting task. I actually took little over two months hiatus, because I was tired of the project. But then I saw that people were really interested in this album! I was totally blown away. People on tumblr were making posts about it, forums were having discussions on it, people were advertising it…I mean WOW! I would never have thought that people would actually admire this!
So in short, I want to say thanks you all for being supportive of my work, and liking my music! It really does help me continue to create more musical ideas, and reminds me why I love to make music.
And of course, I’d be re-missed if I didn’t thank Weaver for creating such an inspiring story of a cat and hare escaping the bowels of a metal hell. Ruby Quest has always been a rather deep inspiration for most of my horror music and ideas. It was quite simply one of the best horror adventures ever told in my opinion. So in short, thank you Weaver! Your work always continues to keep me inspired!

Hey, I just wanted to say for the record
If you post RubyQuest fanart under the #rubyquest or #ruby quest tags (same for NanQuest #nanquest/#nan quest, and DiveQuest #divequest #dive quest)
I will see it
To all of you who have shared their love of the story with their own art, interpretations, and discussion: I have noticed! There is so much fanart and I love every piece of it. You’re all fantastic.
There is a lot of fanart, and the sheer volume makes me feel pretty flattered every day. I can’t reblog every piece, but I want you all to know, for the record, that doesn’t mean I didn’t like it. Don’t think that just because one piece got reblogged and another didn’t means that one is better than another. Don’t feel like you’ve been passed over. I wish there were a fair way to do this but I am a capricious beast and it all depends on my mood and what I read into the piece.
I just wanted to assure you all that I do appreciate everything you’ve done for me
And just remember, whenever you feel alone, or ignored, or unloved
I’m always there
Watching
Watching you
I’ll never leave you
ruby at the scene of the crime
not fiddling with this any more :I
A lot of fans do a lot of incredible RubyQuest fanart. This is one such incredible piece.
It’s nice to see a scene so rarely revisited, and the angle is a reverse of anything we get in the quest, so the new perspective is nice. Not to mention it’s spectacularly drawn, I mean.
I feel really lucky to get so much awesome fanart so often. You guys are the best.
Flaaffies recently became one of three winners in the FYeahRubyAndNanQuest blog! And as a prize, won this RubyQuest panel of Tom and Ruby posing back to back.
Congratulations to Flaaffies!
Spoilery, but something that I’ve noticed about RubyQuest fanart:
In an overwhelming percentage of RQ fanart, Ruby is drawn with her third eye open. Out of the over 855 images that make up RubyQuest, Ruby has her third eye open for only 19.
I know it’s an iconic look, and sort of what sets the character apart in a lot of ways, and I know some of those scenes (probably the first in particular) are some of the most memorable bits, but I always just thought the difference was interesting. I guess it says a lot about the impression you leave.
And on top of that, when people who haven’t read RQ draw Ruby, it’s a pretty accessible image.
Just food for thought.

This is absolutely beautiful
Crossing Pals!
Before RubyQuest - like earlier that day even - I drew some comics about these characters acting up.
When it came time to do my quest, I played with a bunch of abstract designs but nothing was simple yet expressive enough, so I fell back on these characters who I’d drawn just earlier.
The rest is history.
My only design philosophy for these comics was “draw as fast as you can, don’t erase anything”.
